A Celebration of Life, Memorial or Funeral Service?
Marking the death of someone is an important event in most traditions and cultures. However, for those not connected to a spiritual or faith community, from multi-faith families, or uninterested in religion at all, it may be confusing to know where to begin planning or how to approach this important life event.
Whether you wish for something simple such as a eulogy, or desire a ceremony such as a Memorial or Celebration of Life, there is no right or wrong way to approach this. Let’s work together to craft a highly personalized ceremony; one that is unique, reflects the grief of the loss and also respectfully honors or celebrates their life and legacy. Some are highly private events, while others allow for extended family and community members to attend and/or participate in some way.
Celebration of Life
As they approach their death, you may hear some express that they do not wish to have a somber event of mourning for themselves or a loved one. Some do not wish to have any event at all. Consider ways to respect their wishes, and plan a ceremony or small event which allows for both the grief and the celebration of their life and legacy.
Difficult Relationships
A custom crafted ceremony can respectfully honor the death of a loved one that you may have had a difficult or distant relationship with. If it was a challenge based on addiction, abuse, estrangement, or significant differences of opinion or belief, there are tactful and respectful ways to address the mix of emotions that often arise.
